Data and Safety
HookCast is a planning layer on top of forecast and location data. It is not a substitute for official alerts, local water knowledge, or current fishing regulations.
Current data sources
- Open-Meteo forecast data is used where available for weather-based fishing planning.
- Open-Meteo geocoding and location search are used where applicable for place lookup.
- U.S. ZIP lookup may use the configured Zippopotam.us service to convert ZIP codes into coordinates.
- National Weather Service alerts are requested only for U.S. locations where applicable and available.
Important limits
Forecasts can be wrong or incomplete, especially around storms, fast wind shifts, microclimates, changing water levels, cold fronts, and remote areas. HookCast may not know whether a ramp is closed, a pond is private, a creek is flooded, ice is unsafe, or a regulation changed.

HookCast links to official weather, fishing rule, license, and agency resources when it can, but those links are for planning convenience and are not legal advice. Always confirm current rules, seasons, limits, access, and safety notices with official sources before fishing.
Safety reminders
Check storms, lightning, heat, cold, water level, current, ice, wind, waves, visibility, boat condition, required gear, and local access before heading out. If conditions look unsafe, skip the trip.
